I’m 40 and I feel amazing. With each passing year since the age of 30 I have tried to increase my understanding of complete wellness. Complete wellness is so much more than the perfect weight you think you should be. It includes the parts you that are seen and unseen. Internal physical systems, what you eat, drink, toxins to avoid, vitamins to consume, sleep, water, stretching, thoughts, spirtuality, ambitions; so much more than being a size 6 or being the size you were 15 years ago. Complete Wellness even includes your happines barometer, your intellectual growth, self discovery, connection to others, and service to the greater community in which you live. Complete wellness can improve your longevity and quality of life.
In our 20′s we are enjoying our bodies. When we hit our 30′s we become more aware of fitness and physical exercise…and we diet alot. Now that we are in our 40′s the big M is the concern men-o-pause. Weight gain, hot flashes, the usual horror stories. This is where fitness and nutriton intersect. Generally a known formula is to your reduce calories by 1/3 and increase your output of fitness by 1/3. So you have to do more with less food energy. But what if you never started a fitness lifestyle until age 45. What if bread, pasta, and rice are staple foods. What if you were raising kids, working two jobs, living a life? Where do you start? You start by making small daily changes. The changes you make today are going to impact the quality of your life 20 years from now in untold ways.
For example, how many of us recognize the importance of joint range of motion. If your ankle joint can’t bend you shuffle as you age.
Mobile joints mean you can move your body effectively. How many of us work our joints? I actually work all my joints every morning as I lay in bed. I begin with toe wiggling, ankle rotations, knee bends then straightening them, hip circles in bed, curling the body like a ball, hugging yourself tightly, reaching your arms overhead, rotating wrists and wiggling your fingers. I believe everyone knows this. I’m wrong. So while this information may be old hat to you it may be a swanky new hat to someone else. This information exists. Tonnes of information. Who has time to deal with it? We’re going to save you time by funneling the information down to bullet points then directing you to the longer version should you want it. We’re going to give you the information in simple English and briefly. Feel free to share the excerpts with friends.
Breaking bad habits is one thing. Finding new healthy ones is something totally different. Remember…the goal is a fit 40…which creates a fab 50…so you can be a strong and sexy 60…and if you are starting anywhere in this continuum you are planning for the next 20 plus years of your life. So get going every little bit helps.

I’m interested in you. We all lead different lives. Let’s learn from each other and get ready for the next 20 years.
