- At age 12 I saw an instructor with flaming red hair named Kim teach 200 students at the University of Calgary. Hidden behind a column I watched in amazement as she gave instruction. Eventually one of the college students danced with me. One year later I had a junior partner and was competing in junior International style latin competitions. We made it to the final round of auditions for the television show called ”Merv Griffin’s Dance Fever.” From age 12 to 18 I lived a life of daily dancing, training, and performing . Loved it. ( Calypso, Jazz, Cheerleading etc Parents spent money on lessons and I helped out at studio parties setting up chairs, sweeping, washing dishes to pay for lessons). Then education and travel as well as fitness caught my attention. I Entered some early figure contests and aerobic dance contests and eventually became a fitness trainer.
- 10 years later my uncle, a professional ballroom dance teacher from South Africa came to visit. We danced every day for 3 months. I couldn’t stop dancing.
- Lived in Daytona Beach and worked at the Lawrence Dance Studio for 2 years. During this time I drove to Orlando to train with Michael Dean for professioanl instructor training, and at some point moved to Atlanta for 1.5 years to train with Len Ambata. Len only allowed me to dance as a lead to develop my teaching abilities when teaching men. I eventually took my professional exam with Miriam Ellisin Orlando
- Eventually returned to Daytona, completed Masters degree in Marketing. Opened first small studio on Seabreeze blvd. 600sq feet.
- Today we dance in 2100sqft ballroom in historic down town.
- I continue to take training from other professionals who are professionally recognized as being at the top of their profession in specific dances.
- I believe in continuous improvement of skills, staying innovative, and providing clients with new expereinces.
To my dance teaching skills I include wellness and fitnesss principals to create wellrounded dancers. Dance and fitness continue to evolve. Teachers have a responsibility to provide students with the most current information, styles, and techniques. I strive to provide this to all my students. Teaching dance to others is my passion, watching my students take the floor in any social setting with social comfort and confidence brings me great joy. Watching my dancers have fun while dancing warms my heart. As a professional my personal goal is to be a good representative of all of the amazing coaching and instruction I have received since age 12.
